Mastering Remote Leadership
I recently participated in a panel discussion about remote leadership along with Radhika Nayak, SVP of Product at Kinesso, and Michele Tepper, Senior Design Manager at Salesforce. The focus of the event was to answer the question: How do you build influence when the normal ways of doing business are anything but business as usual?
We also covered these topics:
Adapting team rituals and building culture
Navigating the environmental impacts to getting work done
Establishing and maintaining executive influence
Building your leadership presence at a distance
Balancing engagement and accountability
Supporting team members in this unique time
Over half of my executive coaching clients are remote leaders who manage distributed teams and the percentage increases every year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the percentage is 100%. This topic is near and dear to my heart and one of my areas of expertise. Remote leaders have to think outside the box and work creatively in order to be seen, heard, and make an impact…and not be stuck in Zoom meetings 10 hours a day. It’s a challenge, but it is something you can master (and might even love) with deliberate care and thought.
